The Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) will be starting a crackdown on speeding from Monday 8th until Sunday April 14th. The campaign will primarily be carried out on conventional roads, as opposed to highways, with 1,022 people killed in accidents on conventional roads during 2012, representing 78% of all road traffic fatalities.
They will also carrying out controls on motorists, the DGT will be conducting an information campaign, including through a number of radio commercials, to raise awareness on such matters as stopping distances at various speeds.
Breaking the speed limit carries fines ranging from €100 to €600 plus the loss of between 2 and 6 licence points
